Who are Dewsbury Community Outreach?
Dewsbury Community Outreach is a Christian charity based at 74 Daisy Hill, Dewsbury. We are a group of Christians from various local churches who have come together to help the vulnerable and less fortunate in our community by providing practical, emotional and spiritual support in a loving and caring environment.
What is the Refuge?
The Refuge is the name of our premises on Daisy Hill and its our home and the base for our support and activities. It is the former Methodist research centre and was built in the 1800s. The Dewsbury coat of arms quotes Psalm 46 which says “God is our refuge and strength.”
To create a community where everyone is welcome, valued as individuals, and supported with their needs. Where people can meet to share their skills or learn new ones, and where there’s always the chance to talk about the important things in life or simply to have a cuppa.
Our building is located next door to Elim Church in Dewsbury and although we are independent of the church, they are also key partners in the charity.
During the Covid pandemic many of the organisations that have historically provided hot food for the homeless and vulnerable in Dewsbury have temporarily closed and we have teamed up with Sensory World and One Communities to keep a meals service operating (read more on our covid-19 page). Currently our Lunch time meal is available from Outside Sensory World, for people in need, at 12.15 from Monday to Thursday and on Saturday.
